The King and Queen of Sweden have visited Örebro following the tragic school shooting that killed 11 people.

Their Majesties travelled to Örebro the day after the shooting to visit the memorial site and attend a memorial service.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia first visited the area around the school, where people gathered to lay flowers in honour of the victims. They then attended a memorial service in the afternoon at St. Nicolai Church.

During the church service, the King and Queen lit candles in memory of those affected.

A 35-year-old man opened fire on Campus Risbergska on the afternoon of 4 February, killing 11 and injuring many more.

Police have said the male perpetrator acted alone and killed himself after attacking those at the school. The shooting is still being investigated, but it is not thought to be terrorist-related. It is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history.

Campus Risbergska is a school for adults who have not graduated from high school. It also provides Swedish lessons for immigrants and houses an upper secondary school.
