Crown Princess Mette-Marit has undergone a successful lung transplant at Rikshospitalet.
Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit (52) has had an operation at the National Hospital in Oslo. The wife of Crown Prince Haakon, the future King of Norway, was placed on the list following her steep decline in health this year due to pulmonary fibrosis. Her Royal Highness was diagnosed with the life-threatening illness in 2018.
In a statement from the Royal Court, Arnt Fiane, Head of Department at the Thoracic Surgery Department at Rikshospitalet, says that Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s operation has “so far been successful.” She adds that “we are very happy that everything has gone well,” while thanking those involved with the procedure.
The Crown Princess will stay under observation at the National Hospital for a number of weeks, which the Palace says is “standard procedure to adjust medications, handle any complications and engage in rehabilitation.”
As previously announced, Crown Prince Haakon will adjust his official schedule when needed, as was seen this week with the cancellation of a number of engagements. The next medical update is expected upon Crown Princess Mette Marit’s discharge at a later date.
The Crown Prince and Princess would like to thank you for your warm and kind greetings recently. Your consideration means a lot in the demanding situation they are in.
