The photo was taken by Vlad VDK at the Castle of Laeken, which is the official residence of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

Vlad VDK took the image in the summer before the eldest three children of Their Majesties travelled abroad for their studies. Princess Elisabeth went to study in the United States, while Prince Gabriel went to France and Prince Emmanuel to Italy. Only Princess Eleonore, 16, remains at home.

This photograph will feature on the Belgian Royal Family’s 2024 Christmas card that will be sent out to well-wishers who send them a holiday greeting. The card says, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” in Dutch, French, German and English. It also has the printed signatures of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
