Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, Count Henrik and Countess Athena of Denmark have sent royal Christmas greetings from their home in Washington D.C.

As part of the Danish Royal House’s Advent calendar, a photo was released of the family from an early Christmas dinner in the American capital.

Princess Marie prepared one of her favourite Danish dinners – roast pork. The Danish Royal House said this was a way to bring Danish traditions to their American home.

An image was shared of the Princess preparing the meal in the kitchen alongside an image of the family at the dinner table.

Marie’s French roots were also present in the image as a painting of the Eiffel Tower took centre stage as the family wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

France is important to both Marie and Joachim. Not only is Marie from Paris, but Joachim’s late father, Prince Henrik, was also from France. The family recently moved from the French capital to D.C. after the Prince obtained a job at the Danish Embassy.

Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and their family will travel to Denmark soon to spend the holidays with Queen Margrethe.
