Queen Margrethe has written a personal message of thanks on the Danish Royal House’s Instagram account.
The Queen thanked everyone for their kind words after her abdication on 14 January 2024.
Taking to social media, Her Majesty said: “Since the turn of the year, I have been pleased to experience the great and warm attention from all parts of the Commonwealth in connection with my abdication exactly one month ago.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the gifts I have received, and to everyone who has either written, drawn, baked, knitted, flagged, sung or otherwise sent a greeting on the occasion of the change of throne. The many greetings have gone to my heart and I have appreciated each one.”
Photos of the cards, drawings and gifts – many sent from children – Margrethe received were included in the Valentine’s Day post.
Queen Margrethe reigned for exactly 52 years before she abdicated in favour of her elder son, Frederik. He now sits on the Danish throne as King Frederik X.
