Queen Margrethe of Denmark attended a memorial service at Frederiksberg Church for the accidental bombing of a school.

Her Majesty attended the memorial on 21 March for the 80th anniversary of the accidental bombing of the French School in Frederiksberg.

Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by Frederiksberg Mayor Michael Vindfeldt and received flowers from a former pupil, 92-year-old Inge Monberg.

Bishop Peter Skov-Johansen from the Diocese of Copenhagen, Bishop Czeslaw Kozon from the Catholic Church in Denmark and parish priest Lars Gustav Lindhardt from Frederiksberg Parish led the service.

Queen Margrethe took part in a reception after the memorial service.

The French School was mistakenly bombed on 21 March 1945; 116 people died, including 87 children.

The British Royal Air Force meant to bomb the Gestapo headquarters at the request of the Danish resistance. The first plane hit a tall lamp post, causing it to hit the school’s garage. The other planes assumed the burning was from the successful bombing of the Gestapo headquarters and dropped their bombs on the school.
