Prince Christian of Denmark received two orders for his birthday today.

From his grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, he received the Order of the Elephant. The order is a loan, and this particular order was previously loaned to his late grandfather, Prince Henrik. The royal house stated, “The elephant has undergone a necessary minor restoration, in which, among other things, The Queen’s monogram has been affixed, as an elephant always bears the monogram of the sitting monarch when bestowed.”

Also, as a Knight of the Order of the Elephant, Prince Christian will have his personal coat of arms painted, which will be hung in The Knights’ Chapel for the Orders of the Elephant and Dannebrog at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød.

From the Royal House of Norway, Prince Christian received the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav. It is tradition for the royal heirs of Norway and Denmark to receive the respective orders on their 18th birthday.
