New details revealed about Queen Margrethe’s abdication

New details about Queen Margrethe’s abdication have been released by the Danish Royal House.

Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Christian, the Cabinet Secretary and the Danish government will gather in the State Council Hall at Christiansborg Palace for the historic moment.

When the Council of State takes place on 14 January, Queen Margrethe will sign the declaration of abdication at which point Crown Prince Frederik will become King Frederik X. Prince Christian will also become Crown Prince Christian.

Queen Margrethe will leave the State Council Hall and the new King Frederik will take her seat at the end of the table. Christian will take his father’s previous sit at the right side of the monarch.

Crown Prince Christian, 18, will have a permanent seat on the Council of State as the heir to the throne.

The Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, will proclaim the new monarch on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace after the Council of State.
