King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are facing more technical difficulties with their plane.

The state visit to Chile had to be postponed for a day due to technical difficulties, and now they are facing yet more difficulties on their return journey.

They were supposed to depart Chile on Thursday evening, but it turned out that one of the plane’s wheels had suffered damage. They then had to for the following morning to see if they could travel then. As they were travelling with the press and economic delegation, they too were forced to wait.

The following morning, the wheel was repaired, but it didn’t pass the safety check. The King and Queen had been offered a separate flight back but chose to stay with the delegation. King Philippe addressed the delegation, as reported by Wim Dehandschutter, and told them, “The Queen and I have decided to stay with you. We are all together, no matter what happens.”

It is not yet clear when they will be able to fly back to Belgium.
