The King and Queen of Denmark have been awarded France’s highest honour by French President Emmanuel Macron.

As part of the State Visit to France by King Frederik and Queen Mary, national orders were exchanged.

The French leader presented both King Frederik and Queen Mary with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour (Legion d’Honneur) at Élysée Palace in Paris.

The King also presented First Lady Brigitte Macron with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog with a breast star in diamonds. The First Lady was already a member of the Order of Dannebrog from a French state visit to Denmark in 2018. His Majesty gave the breast start with diamonds to her as a special gesture.

The President of France was granted the Order of the Elephant, Denmark’s highest order, in 2018.
