Count Nikolai of Monpezat has shared his feelings about having his princely title removed.
The eldest son of Prince Joachim of Denmark told the Danish media, “It’s a strange feeling, and I would rather not have experienced it. But it is the way it is. For the rest of my life, I will be proud of the years that I was Prince of Denmark could be.”
From 1 January 2023, he is no longer Prince of Denmark, just like his younger brothers and sister. When Queen Margrethe announced her decision, feelings ran high in the family and the Queen eventually apologised publicly. However, her decision was not reversed.
Count Nikolai and his brothers and sister keep their place in the succession.
