The Princess of Wales wants people to focus less on her fashion choices and more on her work.
As a result, Kensington Palace has revealed that they will no longer announce details of the Princess’s wardrobe at events as the Princess wants people to focus on her charity work and not her clothes. Since becoming royal, Kensington Palace regularly announced details of Catherine’s outfits to the press.
A palace source told The Times: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the Princess is wearing. She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting. There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
The new outlook comes as the Princess of Wales returns to public duties following her cancer battle last year. She revealed in January 2025 that she is in remission from cancer.
Catherine is one of the most recognisable and fashionable people in the world and there has been a heavy focus on the royal’s clothing since she joined the Royal Family in 2011. Outfits and jewellery she has worn have sold out in minutes and copycat items also fly off the shelves.
