The Prince and Princess of Wales were in Birmingham to mark World Mental Health Day.

The Princess of Wales gave a speech to a group of young people who had gathered for a day of workshops to mark the day as well. She told them she wanted “fairer, safer, kinder, more equal societies.” She spoke about the impact of social media, the cost of living and climate change.

She wore a unique pair of earrings that she received from the mother of a 17-year-old girl who took her own life. Catherine said, “William and I believe we need to do all we can as a society to help young people develop the emotional and social life skills they need for good mental health and to thrive in the world around them.”

The Prince of Wales joined in the discussion after the Princess’s speech and added, “We feel that we’ve made some progress, in that we’re all in this room talking about mental health and were chipping away at that stigma, but there’s a lot more to do.”
