King Charles has sent his condolences to the victims of an incident in Vancouver, Canada.
In a message shared on social media, the King of Canada said he was “profoundly saddened” by the attack at a Filipino heritage festival in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 26 April.
His Majesty said: “Both my wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the dreadful attack and utterly tragic loss of life in Vancouver, which took place as the Filipino community came together to mark the celebration of one of their most special festivals.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to all those whose lives have been shattered by such a desperate tragedy, and we send our deepest possible sympathy at a most agonising time for so many in Canada.”
The police have ruled out terrorism in the car ramming attack that killed at least 11 and injured dozens of others.
A man in a black Audi ran over people attending the Lapu Lapu Day festival on Saturday evening. The perpetrator, a 30-year-old Vancouver man, was arrested on the scene after bystanders detained him.
Police Interim Chief Steve Rai said at a news conference: “The person we have in custody does have a significant history of interactions with police and health care professionals related to mental health.”
