King Charles is set to be the first British monarch to reveal his personal tax bill to the public.

Buckingham Palace announced that the amount he paid for the 2024/2025 financial year will be revealed as part of the Royal Family’s annual finance report. It is due to be released later this week.

Tax payments that will be made public will include the tax on his income from Duchy of Lancaster profits and earnings and investments from his private estates. The latter includes Balmoral and Sandringham.

Palace sources have said the decision to include the King’s personal tax bill came directly from the monarch, with a spokesperson saying they hope the information will “encourage wider understanding of our accountability.”

“While this is the first time a monarch has shared this personal tax information, you may recall it was similarly released by His Majesty when he was Prince of Wales.

“The decision to do so as sovereign has come at the express wish of the King himself, as part of the adaptations carried across since accession,” the spokesperson added.

It is believed this will become an annual occurrence for the King.

The new announcement comes after calls for more transparency on the finances of the royals following the scandals of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew).
