King and Queen share image with lit up Sydney Opera House

The King and Queen of Australia have shared a photo with a lit-up Sydney Opera House in the background.

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in Australia to begin a multi-day tour of Down Under and Samoa.

To welcome their King and Queen, the Sydney Opera House was lit up with photos of the Royal Family on previous tours of the country.

On social media, the photo of Their Majesties was shared with the message: “What a backdrop! After a rest day at the beautiful Admiralty House, today Their Majesties will begin their first day of official engagements in Australia.

“The King and Queen will attend church this morning, before His Majesty visits the Parliament of New South Wales.

“See you there, Sydney!”

In just an hour, the post on Instagram amassed over 50,000 likes with many people welcoming them to Australia in the comments.

This is King Charles’s first trip abroad to a Commonwealth country since his cancer diagnosis and becoming monarch.
