Historic photos of the Royal Family are set to go on display in Scotland.

Images of the King, Princess Anne and the earliest known photograph of a member of the Royal Family will be on display in Edinburgh.

The photos can be seen at the exhibition Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography at The King’s Gallery in the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the Scottish capital, which will display over 90 photos from the Royal Collection and Royal Archives.

About the exhibit, curator Alessandro Nasini said: “The Royal Collection holds some of the most enduring photographs ever taken of the Royal Family, each one captured by the most celebrated portrait photographers of the past hundred years – from Cecil Beaton and Norman Parkinson to Annie Leibovitz and Rankin.”

The 21st birthday photograph of Princess Anne, the 18th birthday portrait of the King, a young Queen Elizabeth II and the famous 1939 photos of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother will all be featured.

Visitors will also be able to view the earliest known photo taken of a member of the Royal Family. The Madame Yevonde image shows Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester on her 1935 wedding day.

The Scottish exhibit will run from 27 February to 6 September 2025. More information can be found here.

The exhibition was previously in Buckingham Palace in 2024.
