The first royal tour of 2024 has been announced.

The Princess Royal and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, will visit the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from 10 January to 12 January at the request of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The purpose of the trip is to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

Princess Anne will be welcomed by the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe after arrival. She will undertake engagements in Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna where she will meet local communities and faith groups. She will also celebrate the relationship between the two countries.

The last visit to Sri Lanka by a member of the British Royal Family was in November 2013. At that time, King Charles and Queen Camilla (then known as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall) visited the country for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. King Charles had been to the Asian country twice before  – February 2005 after the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and February 1998 to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The Princess Royal visited Sri Lanka in March 1995 as patron of Save the Children.
