In Tigray, she also saw the work of UNICEF regarding conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence. The Duchess of Edinburgh has been a champion of the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI). She visited the Sabacare IDP Camp, with 16,000 internally displaced persons, most of whom are women and girls. She saw the child-friendly space in the camp as well.
At the Ayder Hospital’s One Stop Centre (OSC), Sophie learned about the range of treatments available for these women during this humanitarian crisis. She also visited the Women’s Development Centre, where women are taught skills to help them towards being able to lead an independent life.
