The Countess of Wessex has received an award for her work for women, peace and security.
At the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, Sophie along with four other women received the 2022 Hillary Rodham Clinton Award for her dedication to raising awareness about how to prevent sexual violence in conflict areas.
In this context, the Countess has previously visited Congo, South Sudan and Kosovo.

The Countess said, “For too long survivors of rape in wars have had no voice. For too long they have had to bear the burden of others’ inaction in these crimes. And for too long the perpetrators have not been held accountable. Attitudes need to be challenged and changed.”
