When Paddington in Peru hits theatres, there will be a special cameo by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
In the third instalment of the family franchise, the late Queen Elizabeth II will make an appearance.
During the film, a photo of the late monarch and Paddington having tea can be seen, and it has the full blessing of Buckingham Palace.
Ron Halpern, head of global productions at France’s Studiocanal, told Variety that the image of the Queen came “with the consent and agreement of the Royal Household.”
Producer Rosie Alison also said: “[The Royal Family] were actually very happy for it to happen. But we don’t like to make a big deal of it, because Paddington’s obviously a very modest fellow.”
Many remember the short video of Her Late Majesty with Paddington at Buckingham Palace having tea that was first revealed in 2022. It was filed in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee and showed off the Queen’s humour.
In the video, Her Late Majesty pulls a marmalade sandwich out of her handbag saying, “I keep mine in here — for later.” This was after Paddington offered her a sandwich he had stored in his hat.
Queen Elizabeth II died a few months later at the age of 96. Paddington’s final words to her rang true from the entire United Kingdom and Commonwealth: “Thank you for everything.”
Paddington in Peru will hit US theatres in January 2025.
