The King and Queen of Bhutan have welcomed in the new year with schoolchildren from Thimpu, who recited Lolay, the traditional verses of good wishes.
Their children, Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck, and Gyalsem Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, were also present at Lingkana Palace.
Nyilo is observed in parts of Western Bhutan to mark the New Year and signifies the return of longer days. It is a tradition for children to visit homes and recite blessings for the new year.
