The latest addition to the Bhutanese royal family has received a name.
Queen Jetsun Pema gave birth to a daughter on 9 September, and she has now received the name Sonam Yangden Wangchuck in a naming ceremony.
According to the official Facebook, “Sonam is a Bhutanese name denoting merit, longevity and good fortune. The name Yangden, meaning precious jewel, signifies prosperity and wellbeing.”
The ceremony was held at Tashichhodzong on her father’s accession day. The ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo. Also present were the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Queen Mothers and other members of the royal family.
