The year is almost over, and the world had many special royal events to celebrate throughout 2023.

Below, we countdown the top 10 royal events of 2023:

10. Wedding of Princess Iman of Jordan to Jameel Theriótis

Princess Iman of Jordan married Jameel Theriótis on 12 March 2023 in Amman. It was the first of two royal weddings in Jordan in 2023.

9. Birth of Princess Sonam of Bhutan

Princess Sonam Yangden Wangchuck was born to King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan on 9 September 2023. She is third in the line of succession.

8. Wedding of Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg to Nicolas Bagory 

Princess Alexandra married Nicolas Bagory civilly on 22 April, with a religious wedding following on 29 April. They are now expecting their first child.

7. 50th birthdays of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway

A lot more low-key than other celebrations in Europe, both Crown Prince Haakon (20 July) and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (19 August) turned 50 this year. They marked their birthday with small events in Norway.

6. Birth of Prince Francois of Luxembourg

Prince Francois was born on 27 March in Luxembourg to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie. He is third in the Luxembourgish line of succession after his father and older brother, Prince Charles.

5. 18th birthday celebrations of Spain’s Princess Leonor

The Princess of Asturias came of age on 31 October and swore an oath to the Spanish Constitution on the same day, which declared her as the heir to the Spanish throne.

4. Wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan to Rajwa Al-Saif

The heir to the Jordanian throne married his Saudi Arabian fiancee on 1 June in Amman. The lavish ceremony saw royals from across the globe attend and a motorcade through the capital.

3. 18th birthday celebrations of Prince Christian of Denmark

Christian is second in line to the Danish throne and came of age on 15 October with a balcony appearance, swearing an oath to the Constitution and gala dinner. Celebrations took place on his birthday and concluded with the Council of State in November.

2. The Golden Jubilee of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden

King Carl Gustaf of Sweden marked 50 years as the Swedish king on 15 September with three-day jubilee festivities in Stockholm. Royals from Scandinavia helped the monarch mark his Golden Jubilee that saw a carriage ride, boat ride and gala dinner.

1. The Coronation of King Charles III

King Charles III had his Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 6 May with an Anglican service. He became King in September 2022 after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. It was the most-watched broadcast in the UK in 2023.
