Princess Kako attends sign language speech contest

Princess Kako of Akishino has attended a sign language contest for high school students in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

Before the contest, Princess Kako gave a speech in sign language. She said, “I strongly hope for the realization of a society in which many people deepen their understanding of sign language and deafness and in which everyone can live with peace of mind and have a wide range of options.”

She stayed to listen to the speeches of the ten contestants and applauded them in sign language.

Princess Kako is the second daughter of Fumihito, Crown Prince of Japan and Kiko, Crown Princess of Japan.
