Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan, has graduated from Gakushuin University.
She studied Japanese literature. She began her days there taking online courses due to the pandemic and only took in person classes from April 2023.
Ahead of the ceremony, she told reporters, “I had a fruitful four years at the university. I am grateful for being able to meet wonderful professors and friends.”
Her thesis was about Japanese poems written by an Imperial princess from the 12th century.
From April, Princess Aiko will work part-time at the Japanese Red Cross Society’s headquarters in Tokyo.
