Princess Aiko attended and delivered a speech at the World Congress of Biomedical Laboratory Science on Friday afternoon.
Princess Aiko spoke at the Opening Ceremony of the 36th World Congress of Biomedical Laboratory Science on Friday afternoon. The five-day event, hosted by the Japanese Association of Medical Technologists (JAMT), in conjunction with the 75th JAMT Congress, explores the ‘future of biomedical science from a global perspective – and connects with biomedical scientists and laboratory technicians from around the world.’
During her speech, the Princess Toshi spoke about damage caused by the recent Kumamoto earthquake, the heavy rains in Chiba, as well as the impact of Typhoon No. 25. The Princess said in part, “I sincerely hope that a normal life where people can live with peace of mind will return as soon as possible.”

After the opening ceremony, Princess Aiko viewed a special exhibition featuring displays on activities to prevent and raise awareness of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), per Mainichi.
At the Makuhari Messe Convention Centre on Friday, Princess Aiko also received explanations on how clinical laboratory technologists worked in evacuation centres in the aftermath of July’s earthquake in Kumamoto.
