King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan has offered prayers for the late King Harald V of Norway.
The King of Bhutan was joined by his father, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, his mother, Queen Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck and other members of the Bhutanese royal family as he offered prayers and lit a thousand butter lamps. The special prayers were held this morning at the Grand Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong.

The King was also joined by the Prime Minister, senior government officials, former Bhutanese ambassadors to Norway and the Honorary Consul of Norway in Bhutan.
According to the King of Bhutan’s Facebook page, “His Majesty King Harald V was a deeply beloved Monarch, remembered as a unifying figure who shaped the course of modern Norway. He passed away on 28 August 2026. Bhutan and Norway share warm and friendly ties dating back to the 1960s, when a Norwegian mission helped build Riserboo Hospital in Trashigang. Diplomatic relations were established in 1985.”
