King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand has marked the first anniversary of his mother’s death.

Queen Sirikit died on 24 October 2025 at the age of 93. Queen Sirikit, who had been battling a blood infection since 17 October, had been unwell for many years following a stroke in 2012 and was rarely seen in public due to her poor health. Sirikit was the Queen consort of Thailand from 28 April 1950 until the death of her husband on 13 October 2016. She was then known by Thais as the Queen Mother.

King Vajiralongkorn marked the anniversary alongside his wife, Queen Suthida. Also present were Princess Sirindhorn, Princess Chulabhorn, Princess  Ubolratana and Lady Sirikit Jensen.

The ceremony took place in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall, Grand Palace.

Queen Sirikit’s royal cremation ceremony is scheduled for December. No foreign royals have yet confirmed their attendance later this year. Following the death of Queen Sirikit last October, King Vajiralongkorn issued a royal command for the Bureau of the Royal Household to arrange the royal funeral with the highest honours in strict accordance with royal traditions, and with the dignity to honour and commemorate the boundless benevolence of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
