A new photo of Belgium’s Princess Elisabeth has been released to mark her 25th birthday.

The black-and-white photo of the heir to the Belgian throne was taken by Royal Palace photographer Bas Bogaerts.

The Duchess of Brabant is pictured smiling to the camera in a light coloured sleevless top.

Elisabeth was born on 25 October 2001 as the then Duke and Duchess of Brabant’s first child. She undertook her compulsory education in Belgium and Wales before entering university. She received her bachelor’s degree from Lincoln College at the University of Oxford in England and a master’s degree from Harvard University in the United States.

As the future monarch, Princess Elisabeth undertook military training at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels.

The Princess became the heir to the Belgian throne upon the abdication of her grandfather, King Albert II, in 2013.
