Wales Family attends Commonwealth Games

The Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by their children today in watching some of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

It was a Scottish afternoon in Glasgow today as the Wales Family were out in force to support the athletes competing in the quadrennial Commonwealth Games, watching some of the fixtures taking place and meeting with athletes competing in the matches.

While Kensington Palace indicated that William and Catherine would be attending the penultimate day, it was a surprise that the Prince and Princess were joined by their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The last time that the Wales family attended the event held every four years was back in 2022, as the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, in Birmingham.

Whilst in Glasgow earlier today, William and Catherine met with Team Wales athletes and their families, as well as spent time with those supported by SportsAid, of which the Princess is Patron. This included the next generation of national competitors being supported through their Team England Futures project. Their Team England Futures project will see talented young athletes and aspiring support staff given the opportunity to attend the Glasgow Games and take a first-hand look behind the scenes to prepare them to deliver medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB debutants at future Games.

William and Catherine were with their children in the stands to watch a game of netball, with a very cheeky Prince Louis observing the intense match. The Wales family was also spotted with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. The Duke, who serves as Vice Patron of the Games, has been in attendance since Day 0 in supporting the many athletes who compete. Prince Edward was also joined by his sister, Princess Anne, last Thursday.

This afternoon, many attendees greeted the Wales family as they departed the venue, including the Games’ unicorn mascot “Finnie” and around 20 volunteers. Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn, who was diagnosed with brain cancer, also accompanied the family as they left the Hydro in Glasgow.
