Before the ceremony commenced, a prayer of thanksgiving was offered by the Archbishop of the Military Ordinariate of Spain. The Royal Decree granting the Grand Cross of Aeronautical Merit with White Distinction to Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias was read. The White Distinction means that the honour was earned in a non-combat situation. The Princess of Asturias then received the Grand Cross from King Felipe, with a sword and sash being presented to her.
King Felipe returned to the Royal Tribune, while the Princess returned to the parade ground.
King Felipe then presented the Royal Commissions to the top graduates of the 77th Class of the General Corps, Lieutenant Javier Valdivielso Uranga; of the 31st Class of the Supply Corps, Lieutenant Rodrigo Martín Rivera; of the 34th Class of the Engineering Corps, Lieutenant Carlos Méndez Rebollo; and of the 31st Class of the Technical Engineers Corps, Lieutenant Enrique Aroca García. The various authorities presented the remaining commissions.
King Felipe also delivered a brief statement in light of the wildfire tragedy. He wanted to convey “our affection and support to all those who have lost loved ones and also for the anguish they are suffering due to the uncertainty of not knowing the whereabouts of those who have not yet been located.” He also highlighted “the effort, the work, the dedication, and the sacrifice of all the men and women committed to extinguishing the fire and caring for those who have been displaced.”
