Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway was seen using portable oxygen for the first time at an official event at the Royal Palace in Oslo.
At an event honouring Norway’s Paralympians from the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was seen with portable oxygen while speaking to the athletes, their companions and support staff.
She was joined at the event by her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

The 15 athletes competed in alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing and snowboarding, bringing home eight medals: two gold, four silver and two bronze.
The Crown Prince praised the Paralympians and said most cannot understand the mental and physical training they undergo to represent their country on the world stage.
He remarked, “We have invited you here today because we are incredibly proud of you and wanted to join us in celebrating the fantastic efforts you made during this year’s Paralympics in Milan and Cortina.”

The royals later took a group photo with the athletes, who were seen holding up their fists in celebration.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52, was diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018 and began limiting her royal duties to focus on her health. In December 2025, the Royal Palace announced that her condition had progressed to the point where a lung transplant would likely be needed. By March 2026, her condition had continued to worsen, and she was being reviewed for a transplant.
The Crown Princess will continue to prioritise her health, and she is not expected to return to full-time royal duties.
