Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has interrupted her month-long lung treatment to attend an evening mass at Oslo Cathedral.
The mass was held in connection with the Church of Norway’s apology to the LGBTQ+ community.
President Olav Fykse Tveit, on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference of the Church of Norway, officially apologised to the LGBTQ+ community for the many years of discrimination and acknowledged that the church has caused harm to gay people. He also thanked those who campaigned for change.
The evening mass at Oslo Cathedral followed the apology, and both Crown Princess Mette-Marit and her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, attended.
The evening mass was opened by President Olav Fykse Tveit. Nils Jøran Riedl, vicar of Gildeskål Church in Nordland Church, delivered the sermon. Music was provided by the Oslo Cathedral Choir and the artist Metteson.
Candles were lit for members of the LGBTQ+ community all around the world.
