Prince Andrew has given up his royal titles and honours following more controversy surrounding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In a surprising statement released by Buckingham Palace, Andrew said he has chosen to “no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”

He stressed again that he denies the allegations against him.

Prince Andrew will no longer use his titles of Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh. He will retain his title as prince.

The Prince’s full statement reads:

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

Prince Andrew stepped back as a working member of the Royal Family in 2019 due to his friendship with the late American financier.

A new book released posthumously by Andrew’s accuser, Virginia Giuffre, has detailed further information regarding her relationship with the Prince. Prince Andrew has always denied all accusations of wrongdoing.
