The King of Thailand has donated to the injured from the ongoing border clash between Thailand and Cambodia.

King Rama X has offered royal patronage to the injured, which will pay medical bills and funerals, as well as help rebuild homes destroyed in the fighting.

Privy Councillor Gen Paiboon Khumchaya delivered royal relief packages to those affected in the Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani areas.

The King has also decided to cancel his upcoming birthday ceremonies on 28 and 29 July due to the escalation. They were due to take place at the Grand Palace’s Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall in Bangkok.

The conflict is regarding a border dispute with both countries fighting over territory that was divided up by French colonisers over a century ago.

Thailand and Cambodia have been trading blows for days, with 33 people dying and more than 168,000 displaced. The countries have recalled their ambassadors, and Thailand has closed its border with Cambodia.

As of July 26, the countries have reportedly agreed to ceasefire talks after US President Trump seeks to broker a peace deal between the Asian kingdoms. The UN and other countries have also called for a ceasefire.
