Prince Oscar turns ten

Prince Oscar of Sweden marks his tenth birthday today.

The birthday boy will celebrate privately with family, but a new photo or two will be released by the Royal Court to mark his special day.

Prince Oscar Carl Olof is the second and younger child of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. He was born on 2 March 2016 at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

The Prince is third in line to the Swedish throne behind his mother and older sister, Princess Estelle.

Oscar was christened on 22 May 2012 at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace with his maternal uncle, Prince Carl Philip, paternal aunt Anna Westling-Söderström, Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (then the Prince of Orange), Queen Mary of Denmark (then Crown Princess), and Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway, serving as godparents.

Like his older sister, he attends Campus Manilla School in Royal Djurgården.

Prince Oscar is one of only two of King Carl Gustaf’s grandchildren who are in the Royal House and carry the style of Royal Highness. In October 2019, the King removed the Royal Highness styles and place in the Royal House from his grandchildren, not in the direct line of succession – meaning the children of his son, Prince Carl Philip and daughter, Princess Madeleine.

This means that, unlike his cousins, the Prince will be expected to represent the Royal House and undertake royal engagements when he is of age.
