The Dutch Royal Family participated in one of their traditional photo sessions with the press.
This year’s spring session took place in the Old Dutch Garden at the Clingendael Estate with King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, the Princess of Orange, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane participating.

The family typically undertakes two photo calls with the press each year under an agreement that the media will not hound them in their private lives.
However, this didn’t stop the press from questioning the family about different events that have taken place and their lives. Princess Amalia was taken aback when she was questioned about whether she would be ready for the throne if something happened to her father.
“I will certainly do my best. … We are not only losing a king then, but I am losing my father. I am not ready for that yet, no.”

The King then added that he feels like Amalia was “born ready.”
Princess Alexia then joked, “It’s not really like you can practice for the kingship online.”
Princess Ariane also spoke about how people perceive her as shy and thoughtful, “I don’t keep up with everything that is said; I’m actually quite happy about that. Who I am is separate from the media’s portrayal.”
One Dutch journalist spoke with Princess Alexia after the young royal was spotted getting into a car with singer Antoon. Queen Máxima interjected, remarking, “That is private.”

The 20-year-old Princess also broke her silence on the mental strain of finding out that a far-right extremist had plotted to kill her and her older sister, Amalia.
“You can’t say it’s normal and that you feel normal about it. I am grateful for the security around us and the support from friends,” she said.
