The Crown Prince of Dubai has received a military promotion.

Crown Prince Hamdan has been appointed General of the UAE Armed Forces by the UAE President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE President issued a federal decree appointing the Crown Prince of Dubai, just over a year after he became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence on 14 July 2024.

Hamdan graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2001 in the UK.

He has been the Crown Prince of Dubai since 2008. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Ruler of Dubai from 2006-2008. His father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is the current Ruler of Dubai.
