Queen Sonja of Norway has created two large ceramic jars, which have been placed outside the Queen Sonja KunstStall.
The jars weigh more than 400 kilograms each and are handmade ceramic. They were built up from clay, a process that took a month for each. They are the largest works of art Queen Sonja has made to date.

Queen Sonja has extensive experience working with ceramics and making ceramic jars. This time, she drew inspiration from a smaller jar from Queen Maud’s collection, which was part of the 2025 exhibition “At the King’s Table – from Tableware to Contemporary Ceramics”.
The two large jars were created at Tommerup Ceramic Workshop in Denmark. When they were finished, they were transported to Norway. They were then lifted to their final place outside the entrance at Parkveien 50.
The Queen Sonja KunstStall has been closed since King Harald’s death in August. Today, the KunstStall and the exhibition “Threads in Time – From the Royal Steppes to the Royal Carpet” will reopen.
