Queen Silvia of Sweden has opened the first new hospital at Södermalm in Stockholm.

The Queen had laid the foundation stone for the new hospital building in 2019. The hospital will provide special care in surgery and anaesthesia. It will also give palliative care and offer x-rays and rehabilitation.

After the opening ceremony, Queen Silvia toured the hospital and met with patients and staff. She gave a short speech in which she said, “Ersta’s ambition and will is to, based on the diaconal mission, provide care of the highest quality, based on science and carried out with heart. Ersta’s mission is to serve people in vulnerable situations, and what could be more important?”
