Queen Mette-Marit and Prince Sverre Magnus greet crowd outside palace

Queen Mette-Marit of Norway and Prince Sverre Magnus have greeted people waiting outside the Royal Palace in Oslo.

People had been placing flowers and cards in front of the palace since it was announced that King Harald had passed away. Yesterday evening, King Harald’s coffin was transported from the hospital to the royal palace.

Shortly after the arrival of King Harald’s remains, Queen Mette-Marit and Prince Sverre Magnus stepped outside to speak to people and look at the flowers and cards.

Queen Mette-Marit stopped several times to look at the flowers and the many cards left for King Harald and the rest of the family. She was visibly emotional. She thanked the people who had gathered in front of the palace. Queen Mette-Marit spoke with the siblings Håkon Stølen Isdahl (10) and Helle Stølen Isdahl (12), who later told Se og Hør that she thanked them very much for everything. Helle said, “It was really cool. Mette-Marit waved to me and seemed very touched. She said: ‘Thank you very much, this was very nice.'”

This evening, King Haakon and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra will receive the President of the Storting, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the President of the Church of Norway in a condolence audience.
