Princess Amalia, the Princess of Orange, has become acquainted with three departments of the Dutch armed forces in the past year. This was presented to her on the occasion of her eighteenth birthday.

She first visited Volkel Air Base in April and flew on a training flight of an F-16 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. She received an explanation for this at an F-16 simulator, and she spoke with the military and employees involved.

In June, Amalia visited the 43 mechanized brigade, the heavy infantry brigade of the Royal Netherlands Army in Darp. She took a ride in a tank and met the soldiers of the German-Dutch 414 Tank Battalion. The Dutch soldiers are part of the ‘Regiment Hussars Princess Catharina Amalia.’

In August, the princess visited the Royal Navy in Den Helder. She boarded the Zr.Ms. Zeeleeuw and received a tour and explanation about life under water. A traditional Indian rice table was eaten together with the crew. She also piloted the submarine and raised it to the surface.
