Princess Leonor has completed the first stage in her military training with a ceremony at the General Military Academy.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia were on hand for the special moment, as was Leonor’s younger sister, Infanta Sofia.
The King reviewed the troops before the Spanish Military Archbishop said a prayer of thanksgiving.
It was then time for the King to be a proud father as he presented the appointment of cadet lieutenant of the Army to his elder daughter. King Felipe also awarded his daughter the Grand Cross of Military Merit with white insignia.
The moment wasn’t complete without a father-daughter hug. The Princess of Asturias then greeted her mother and sister, who also embraced her on the platform.
His Majesty also read out the different promotions granted and presented other troops with their decorations.
The General Director of the General Military Academy then paid tribute to all those who have sacrificed for Spain in the name of freedom.
The heir to the Spanish throne still has two years of military training left. Leonor will train with the Spanish Navy next year and the Air Force the following year.
