Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits children’s camp

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway visited a children’s camp in Hudøy.

The Princess visited the 420 children at Camp Hudøy after arriving on the ferry “Ternen,” which her grandmother, Queen Sonja, christened in 2003 while visiting the island.

Each summer, children from Oslo spend time at the camp that is run by Kirkens Bymisjon. The camp, which features outdoor toilets and mobile free zones, has existed since 1916.

Secretary General Adelheid Firing Hvambsal of Kirkens Bymisjon said about the camp, “Hudøy summer camp contributes to new friendships and community. Children from all over Oslo share the same summer memories across local affiliation, status and economic background.”

Princess Ingrid Alexandra spent time with the children and toured their dormitories; she also took part in the sailing and rode an ATV around the island to visit the camp.

The Princess helped the boy’s camp fish for crabs and was presented with a red Hudøy t-shirt for her time.

Before leaving, she heard a performance of a song written for Queen Sonja’s 2003 visit that has since become the “national anthem” of the camp.
