Princess Amalia has spoken about living in Spain for a year due to threats in the Netherlands.

The Princess of Orange, 20, made the comments at the annual King’s Day celebration in the Dutch kingdom.

Amalia told the media that Spain gave her freedom: “I was able to find my freedom there a little more than was possible here.”

She revealed that she had a “fantastic time” while in Spain and that her time there made “life here somewhat possible again.”

However, even if she enjoyed her time in Spain, she said: “I’m happy to be back.”

The heir to the Dutch throne lived and studied in Madrid, Spain, for a year due to threats she was receiving at the end of 2022.

Sources told NOS that the threat in the Netherlands had not been eliminated but new measures have been put in place that allow Amalia to return home and study in Amsterdam.
