Princess Alexia of the Netherlands celebrates her 18th birthday today. As such, she is now able to act as the head of state should the need arise.
For the occasion, the Government Information Service released three new photos of the Princess. They were taken at her family’s home of Paleis Huis Ten Bosch in May.
Her father, King Willem-Alexander, also named her as Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Netherlands Lion, as is the custom for all children of the head of state once they turn 18. She was also named Knight of the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau. This is a shared order between the King and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
She is now also allowed to use a flag. On 24 November 2021, King Willem-Alexander settled a flag on his daughters for when they reached the age of 18. The youngest daughter, Princess Ariane, is now the only one who is not 18 years old.
Princess Alexia recently graduated from the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, although the full exam results won’t be available until next month. It has not yet been announced what her plans for her future education are.
