The Norwegian Royal Family has marked Constitution Day.

The day began at the Crown Prince Family’s home in Asker, where a children’s parade marched past Skaugum at 08.15. Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus greeted the children, as is tradition, on the steps of the home and received flowers.

A couple of hours later, the Crown Prince Family joined King Harald and Queen Sonja on the balcony of the Royal Palace in Oslo for another children’s parade.

The parade began with the Armed Forces Staff Band and the May 17th Committee before the children began their march.

Schools celebrating anniversaries are given the honour of parading first in front of the royals, and this year, three elementary schools celebrating their 125th anniversary marched through Oslo at the start of the parade. In total, there were over 26,000 children who participated from 109 schools.

The King’s Guard’s Band marched behind the students to conclude the parade.

The Royal Family traditionally stands on the palace balcony as thousands of students march past.
