King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has congratulated the first Dutch gold medalists of these Olympic Games.
He wrote, “What a great victory: Olympic gold for the rowers double four! We are all so proud of Finn Florijn, Lennart van Lierop, Koen Metsemakers and Tone Wieten. The hard work and perseverance have brought the rowers to the top of the sport. They have proven this once again on the highest podium in the world. What a fantastic team performance!”

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, the Princess of Orange and Princess Alexia attended the Olympic Games until yesterday, meaning they just missed out on seeing the first gold won for the Netherlands.
