King Philippe of the Belgians has revealed his thoughts on abdication in a question-and-answer session with the public.
The King has answered 38 questions from Belgian citizens that were submitted for his 65th birthday.
One of the questions His Majesty was asked was about his possible future abdication.
He explained that he wants to give his daughter and heir, Princess Elisabeth, time to enjoy her youth.

“I will continue to work for Belgium, and I must give my daughter the time to enjoy her youth, to develop, to see the world. I support her 100% in this. And I will do everything I can to give her all the time she needs to do,” His Majesty explained.
The King’s father, King Albert, abdicated in his favour in 2013. King Philippe also called his accession to the throne “one of the most beautiful moments” of being King of the Belgians.
On the King’s 65th birthday, the Belgian Royal Palace released a video of his four children inviting the public to submit questions for him to answer. Over 2,600 questions were received, and King Philippe chose to answer 38 of those at 6 pm on 17 June.
The King’s answers were posted to the Belgian Royal Palace’s Instagram account.
